Sapling of sacred tree from Anuradhapur ''fading''
Patna | Tuesday, Jun 29 2010 IST

Two saplings of Mahabodhi tree - one from Bodh Gaya and other from Anuradhapur in Sri Lanka - planted by spiritual Guru Dalai Lama at Buddhist Memorial Park in Patna last month, have hogged limelight for not so pleasant reason.

One of them has least chance of survival due to alleged slackness in required care by the staff concerned.

Principal Secretary of State Urban Development Department Girish Shankar said here today the sapling of the sacred tree, brought from Anuradhapur in Sri Lanka, was weak in health since the very beginning. The other one brought from Bodh Gaya was in good health and had fair chances of survival, he added.

''Steps were being taken to bring another sapling from sacred tree in Anuradhapur,'' he said, adding instructions had been issued to concerned authorities to ensure full care to such saplings of rich cultural and religious importance.
