Tezu is a census town and the headquarters of Lohit district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The ancient inhabitant of this land of valley and rivers are the Mishmi tribes.[citation needed] The Mishmi tribes have traditions and customs dating back to the times of Mahabharata.[citation needed] According to sacred Hindu traditions, Lord Krishna’s first queen Rukmini was a Mishmi Damsel. The major Mishmi God is Ringyajabmalu and the major Mishmi festival is known as Tamladu puja. It is celebrated each year on 15 February. People from all communities and all walks of life are invited to join in the celebrations.

The Holy Parshuram Kund is also nearby and thousands of Hindu pilgrims from all over India, and also from neighbouring countries, come to take a holy dip and wash away the sins of millions of births on  Makar Sankranti on January 14. The legend behind the belief recorded in the Kalika Purna, is that Parashuram the Hindu mythological character washed away the sin of killing his mother in Lohit river at Bramhakund.

The old site of the Parashuram Kund was in existence till 1950 when it was completely changed by the earthquake that shook the whole of the North-East and the kund was completely covered. A very strong current is now flows over the original site of the kund but massive boulders have in a mysterious way embedded themselves in a circular formation in the river bed thus forming another kund in place of the old.
