Cuttack, one of the oldest cities in India dating back to 1000 years built by King Ananga Bhimadev-III. Cuttack is known as the ‘Silver City’ due to its finest Filigree works, the best in the country. This silver city was the former capital of Odisha. Hemmed on the north and south by river Mahanadi & Kathajodi afforded a natural fortified base for the kings of the yore.

The 11th century embankment of Kathajodi, the ruins of Barabati Fort, the shrine of Katak Chandi, the Quadam-i-Rasool, Netaji Subhas Bose Memorial (birthplace of Subhas Bose), the Maritime Museum and Epiphany and Odia Baptist churches are the major attractions of the city.

The Barbati Fort is well known fort with carved gateway. It is a 14th century fort build during the Ganga dynasty. The fort is situated on the river Mahanadi. It is the earthen mound of the 9 storeyed palace. The monument was built with such a design that it protects from enemy attacks.

The Cuttack Chandi Mandir, one of the oldest temples in Odisha. Here, Goddess Kata Chandi is worshipped and she is considered the presiding deity of the Silver City. Durga Puja is a major festival celebrated in the temple when the Goddess is worshipped in various incarnations of Goddess Durga.

Quadam-I-Rasool mosque serves as the epitome of the magnificent Indo-Islamic architecture. It is the most prominent Muslim cemetery in Cuttack and has the graves of many Nazists. People believe that a Hindu king had established this holy shrine for the Muslim community. The mosque is visited by Hindus as well as Muslims. It basically consists of three mosques, along with the Nawabat Khana (music gallery). The mosque houses the footprints of the prophet, engraved on a stone.

Epiphany church was built in 1865 and is one of the oldest in the city. This beautiful structure is an example of British colonial architecture. Another church, the Odia Baptist Church is the largest in the state. “This church is known as the ‘Mother Church in Orissa’ because non-Christians were baptized here for the first time,”
