Kolhua Hill, 1,575 ft high, lies about 10 km south-east of Hunterganj in Chatra District. Akash Lochan (Sky Eye), the top of the hill, provides an excellent view of the surroundings. This hill is considered sacred by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists.

A number of ancient temples can be found, prominent being Kauleshwari Devi Temple, which is dedicated to Goddess Kali. There is also a water tank at the top of the hills where the devotees can take a bath before worshipping the goddess.

This hill is considered as sidda pith as it is believed that the womb (Kokh) of goddess sati fell here. Hindu devotees come here to pray for children and after full-fillment of their wish visit with their children to perform “Mundan Sanskar”(tonsure).

It is believed that Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana stayed here for some time while in exile. It is also believed that Pandavas of Mahabharata also stayed here during crucial Agyatvaas.

According to Jains the footprint found at the top of the hill belongs to 23rd Tirthankara “Parshwanath”.

There are Lord Gautam Buddha’s statues in meditation pose engraved and embossed on the rocks of the hill. These sculpted statues date back to 7th century. In Buddhist scriptures this place was known as Taposthali of Buddha. It is believed that Buddha before proceeding to Sarnath got his head tonsured here. The Buddhist followers till today continue the same and visit this hill every year to get their hair and nails cut.

The hill is noted for Kolhua Mela or Fair which takes plays twice a year .The Mela is mainly a religious fair which attracts a number of pilgrims and devotees who come to the place in order to worship the Goddess. It is usually celebrated on the eve of Ram Navami   and Magh Vasanth Panchami.
