Mandrancha, described in the Puranas, which we know today as Mandar mountain, is a very important mountain from the religious perspective. This mountain is located in Bondi of the Banka district, the border of Bihar and Jharkhand. It is about 700 ft high and approximately 45 km south of Bhagalpur city off Bausi
Mandar mountain was used as a Mathani in the sea churning. Since then, the religious significance of this mountain has increased tremendously. Mandandar mountain has been described in many myths including Markandeya Purana. According to popular belief, Lord Vishnu always lives on Mount Mandar.
There are a dozen kunds and caves on the mountain made of the same rock of nearly seven hundred and fifty feet high, with a single rock in which Sita Kund, Shankha Kund, Narasimha Lord Cave, besides Akash Ganga, Shukdev Muni Cave, Lakhdipa in the mountain belt besides Ram Zarokha Temple, Kamdhenu Temple and Chaitanya Charan Mandir are situated.
There are numerous statues of gods and goddesses kept on Mount Mandar. According to archaeologists, there are quite arable statues. For the last several years, it has been this way here. The vast mountain of black granite stone itself boasts a history of several centuries.
According to the experts, the marriage of Aurobo’s daughter Sameka was from Mandar, the son of Doumya Muni. Because of this the name of this mountain was Mandar.
Mandar mountain is also a confluence of three religions. The Safa dhamma is a temple built by Swami Chander Das, founder of Safa Hod Dharm in mount Tarai, in the middle, there is Lord Narasimha cave in the middle, in which God Narasimha is sitting. While the 12th Tirthankara of the Jain religion on the mountain peak is the nirvana of Lord Vasappujya.
There he used to do penance which was called as ‘Aditya Kalyanak’. Through the years, from the corners of the country, the Jain Matthi Mandir fell down and touched the feet of his Tirthankar. Every year in Mandar, on the day of Makar Sankranti, a month-long fair is held from January 14, where millions of people visit.
