Purnagiri hill

Purnagiri or Punyagiri Mountain is situated at a height of 3000 m above the main sea level and is located at about 20 km from Tanakpur. It is one of the 108 Siddha Peeths and has a temple dedicated to Goddess Purnagiri. The mountain is known as the “mountain of good deeds”. It is from here that the river Kali descends into the plains.

A numbers of fairs take place here during Navaratras, when devotees in a large number come from surrounding areas to have a darshan and worship the goddess Purnagiri creating an atmosphere of spirituality. The fair starts from Vishuwat Sankranti and continues for about forty days.

To visit this shrine one can go up to Thuligarh by vehicle. From this point onwards one has to trek the rest of the way. After the ascent of Bans Ki Charhai comes Hanuman Chatti. The southwestern part of ‘Punya Parvat’ can be seen from this place. From the highest point of Purnagiri hill, one gets a beautiful view of the river Kali, its islands, the townships of Tanakpur, and a few Nepali villages. After worshiping Mata Purnagiri, people also pay their tributes to her loyal devotee Baba Siddh Nath at Brahmadev and Mahendra Nagar in Nepal.
