Audumbar

 

Audumbar villagelocated on the bank of river Krishna in Sangli district, is known for the shrine of Shree Dattatreya held in high reverence.  This shrine is said to have been built in honour of Shree Narasimha Saraswati who is supposed to be the second incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. His greatness has been extolled in Sri Guru Charitra written by Gangadhar Saraswathi.

Shri Nrisimha Saraswati performed Chaturmas Anushtaan (four holy months) and blessed the land of Audumber and thus the place became a divine and holy place. In this auspicious place with blessing of Shri Dattatraya Guru a mentally retarded Brahmin boy acquired knowledge and became a pundit (scholar). This is grandeur of place where people are blessed by knowledge and are freed from their worries.

As per vision from Lord Dattatreya, sage Bramhanand of Girnar discovered and renowned this divine holy place Audumber where Shri Nrisimha Saraswati performed Chaturmas Anushtaan (Four holy months). All the devotees of Lord Dattatreya treat Shri Kshetra Audumber with similar respect as those of other places of Lord Dattatreya like Ganagapur and Narsobachi Wadi.
