Panchamukhi Anjaneya Temple in Raichur district is located over a hilly area and is associated with one of the most renowned saints in India- Ragavendra Swamy.

Ragavendra Swamy was also a profound philosopher and was considered to be a person who carried out miracles during his lifetime. It was during his stay at Manchale that he regularly visited all the holy places present around his locality. The two villages Bichale and Gandhal he visited on a frequent basis. It is said that the cave present in Gandhal was one of the most frequently visited places by Ragavendra Swamy  and that he would meditate there for hours and even days together.

Even now the cave has been maintained as it was then and rock-steps of say about fifty or so will lead one to the cave temple. From the top of the hillock, a narrow passage leads to the sanctum of the cave temple.

The carvings on the rocks within the caves and a few in the temple were said to be done by swamy himself. It is believed that upon one of his meditation, Lord Anjaneya appeared with five faces, the faces were that of Hanuman, Narasimha, Garuda and Varaha. Hence the name Panchamukhi, which he then carved on the rock. The name of the temple is taken from this event and the cave temple was then named as Panchamukhi Anjaneya Temple.

The cave temple is surrounded by unique rock formations.
