Pachmarhi is a hill station in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh state of central India. It has been the location of a cantonment (Pachmarhi Cantonment) since the British Raj. It is widely known as Satpura ki Rani (“Queen of Satpura”), situated at a height of 1067 m in a valley of the Satpura range in Hoshangabad district. Dhupgarh, the highest point (1,352 m) in Madhya Pradesh and the Satpura range, is located here. It is a part of the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve.

Pachmarhi presents an assortment of magnetisms ranging from antique fissures to striking memorials. This region is considered as an eminent hill stoppage in the Satpura range. Pachmarhi is very much grateful to the extremely pioneering officer of the British rule, Captain Forsyth for the overall growth within the settlement. It was on the reference of this dignified officer that Pachmarhi has been transformed into a well-known hospice and afterward to a hill station.

The name Pachmarhi is believed to be derived from the Hindi words Panch (“five”) and Marhi (“caves”). According to a legend, these caves were built by five Pandava brothers of Mahabharatha era during their thirteen years of exile. The caves are situated on a hilltop and provide an excellent vantage point.

Pachmarhi comes under the Pachmarhi Cantonment Board of the Indian Army and is widely popular as “Satpura Ki Rani” (Queen of Satpura). It shares its border with the Vindhya and Satpura ranges that are blessed with abundant natural beauty. The place has several waterfalls, lakes, streams, and lush green valleys.

Pachmarhi also provides a wide opportunity to wildlife lovers, who want to enjoy the incredible views of dense forest, covered in mist and spot wild animals such as tigers, panther, elephant, etc. It lies within the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve, created in 1999 to link two forest reserves into a large wildlife conservation area. This area has a very rich and rare flora and fauna, so, a lot of tourists come here every year to satiate their urge to explore the exotic wilderness of Pachmarhi.
