Siyot caves

 

Siyot caves in Lakhpat, Kutch are believed to belong to the first century AD. These consist of an east facing Sanctum and an Ambulatory. The folklores also suggest that Siyot caves were among the 80 monastic sites that were reported by the Chinese travelers at the mouth of the Indus River. These caves are an important site to visit for those interested in inscriptions and architecture of the ancient time. The sculptures that have been found here attract a lot of tourists from all over the world. The carvings in the caves are among the rare things which have been found all over the country and hence all this makes this place a very unique and a very interesting place to visit. Also the sanctum and ambulatory reveal that this place had a very strong Buddhist link.
