Banapur is a town of Banapur Tehsil in the Khordha district of Odisha, India. The main focus here is the temple dedicated to the goddess Bhagabati, the presiding deity of Banpur. The idol depicts eight armed goddesses and the minced head of Mahisasura (devil). It is one of the famous Shaktipithas of Odisha. The temple was built in the 9th century AD. Durgapuja is the main festival of this temple. A number of Buddhist idols were excavated at Banapur. This place is therefore linked to Buddhist culture.
