Khambhalida caves are situated in Rajkot District near Gondal. There are three caves, the central one being a ‘chaitya’ with a worn out stupa. The entrance of the chaitya is flanked by two large sculptures of the Bodhisatvas-Padmapani on the right and Vajrapani on the left. The site boasts of identifiable carvings of Boddhistava and is one of the most import centers of worship for the followers of Buddhism. Most caves and monasteries in this region were in the form of residential quarters, meant to provide housing facilities to the monks, students, scholars and other travelers visiting the monastery.
