The Bahubali hills are popularly known as “Kumbhojgiri”. The place is named after sage Bahubali who mediated here about 300 years ago. It is a popular site revered by both Hindus and Jains. Bahubali hill temple is flocked by devotees who come to pay respects to the 28 feet tall marble statue of Bahubali and visit the temples of the 24 Tirthankaras or saints. It is located at a distance of 27 km south of Kolhapur in Maharashtra. A Durgamata temple on the hill nearby is another place of pilgrimage.

The history behind this Tirth (also spelt as Teerth) is not much known except for the fact that has been a very ancient Tirth of Jains. The Shvetambaras regard it as the Setrunjaya of south Maharashtra. This temple was renovated many times. Its last renovation was accomplished on the seventh day of the bright half of the month of Magh in the year 1926 of the Vikram era.

This temple looks very beautiful and splendid. The scene of the forest and the village farms looks full of delight and beauty. People visiting these temples have to climb about 400 steps. This temple of Lord Shri Jagvallabh Parshwanath on the hills is believed to be highly worshipped by the Jains. There are also some other Jain temples on the hill. There is a tall statue, nearly 100cms high of Lord Bahubali on the white-coloured idol of Bhagawan Jagvallabh Parshvanath in the Padmasana posture. The idol is very serene and beautiful. Also one can see some other Jain idols around the Bahuballi statue.

After the death of the saint Bahubali, many great spiritual Jain Munis have visited the place making this temple site more blessed for the devout followers of Jainism. This is a famous Jain pilgrimage centre and believed to be an Atishaya Kshetra-a place of miracles.

Bahubali Atishaya kshetra known by the Idol of Lord Bahubali (Jain tirth place) in standing posture is situated on about 50 steps up and 28 feet in height; sthapana /installed in 1963. The idol is installed close to the feet of the hill and can be seen from kms away from the hill. This place comes under Kumbhoj village.
