Mayapur a very holy and sacred place is located on the banks of the Ganges River. It is at the point of the confluence of Ganga with the Jalangi. Mayapur is a religious centre and one of the nine dhams of the 9 holy islands. The 9 islands together look like an eight-petaled lotus flower and are called Navadwipa which was earlier capital of Bengal.

Shri Chaitanya Math

Mayapur holds a special place in the heart of the Gaudiya Vaishnaviites as it is the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, regarded as a special incarnation of Krishna in the mood of Radha. It is visited by over a million pilgrims annually.

One can still see the neem tree, under which he is supposed to have been born. There is also a hut inside where Mahaprabhu grew up as a boy. The hut displays his life with the help of clay models.

There are also Deities of Mahaprabhu as a child along with His parents, Saci-devi and Jagannatha Misra. While digging the foundation for this temple, a deity of Adhoksaja Visnu was unearthed, believed to be the household Deity of Jagannatha Misra. The Yogapitha temple also houses the Deities of Sri Sri Laksmi-Narsimha and Sri Sri Gaura-Gadadhara.

This samadhi mandir is just takes 2 minutes from the Chandrodaya temple. The temple houses a golden statue of Prabhupada in the centre.

The town is heavily centered on this particular Vaishnava religious tradition, officially known as the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Sampradaya, with temples devoted to Radha and Krishna or Gaura-Nitai throughout.
