The Buddhist Khaggavisana Sutta, literally ‘Rhinoceros Horn’ and better known as the Rhinoceros Sutra, is one of the earliest and most authentic expressions of original Buddhist thought. This sutra is appropriately titled to present what the translator calls an essay ‘on the value of living the solitary wandering life’, or to the life of a lonely wandering Buddhist monk.

The emblem of the eleventh Jain Tirthankara Shreyasanatha is the rhinoceros.
